The Laura Nyro Project is coming to a city near you – if you live in New York City!
I am once again musical directing the amazing Stoned Soul Picnic band, featuring Diane Garisto singing the beautiful and brilliant songs of Laura Nyro. Diane was once one of Laura’s elite team of female vocalists! The all star band consists of Larry Saltzman (Simon and Garfunkle) on guitar, Sam Bryant (Leanne Rimes) on drums, Andy Huenerberg (Aretha Franklin) on bass, Janie Barnett (Rickie Lee Jones) on vocals and guitar, Emily Bindiger (George Benson) on vocals, Carolee Goodgold (Cher) on vocals, and of course me on keyboards. Special guest Whitney Houston’s former musical director Bette Sussman.
It’s all happening Sunday June 2nd at the City Winery Loft in Manhattan – 155 Varick Street, 2nd Floor (212) 608-0555. It’s a Brunch show, so come hungry! Doors open at 11:30 am, music starts at 12:30. We’ll be doing all of your favorites, as well as some of those deep tracks from the depths of her eclectic albums. Laura’s borderless outlook on creating music helped shape the writing styles of so many artists including Todd Rundgren, Elton John, and certainly me. And I hope to see you there!
Meanwhile, here is a video of me playing Laura’s haunting “To A Child” at one of our previous shows. Enjoy!
